Naskan is a Navajo word which means sacred blanket. The Pendleton Naskan saddle blanket celebrates the Navajo story Tsohanoai (The Sun Bearer). Tsohanoai is said to move across the sky on horseback dragging the sun. Beneath the hooves of his horse are said to be sacred blankets or Naskan. The pattern used in this Pendleton blanket reflects the four sacred mountains of Navajo mythology as well as the central area depicting the land of the Dine.
