Native American have practiced astronomy since ancient times to predict the arrival of the brightest stars. In Wyoming and Canada mysterious medicine wheel have been found that track the rising of Aldebaran, Rigel, and Sirius. In the Central Plains the Pawnee people honored the Pleiades Cluster and believed the Pole star was a protective chief who shone highest in the night sky. Their villages were planned with an eye toward astronomy dedicating one corner of their village to the Evening Star.
